About Us
Our Kaleidoscope Community is open to all members of the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies regardless of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, ability, class, or religious background. On Thursday nights, people are finding and experiencing a gathered community of love and acceptance that likes to have fun. While we are grateful for the support of Roberts Park UMC, we are not a church or a religious meeting. We are an inter-faith group and we acknowledge all expressions of faith and spirituality.
OUR HISTORY
Our Kaleidoscope Community Inc., is a newly formed 501(c)3 organization made possible with the support of Roberts Park United Methodist Church.
Our Kaleidoscope Community originated as a program called “Kaleidoscope Indy” in November of 2021. The focus was on providing meaningful and fun opportunities for the LGBTQIA+ community to gather together on a weekly basis. Our Kaleidoscope Community, Inc was approved as a corporation by the state of Indiana in July 2023 and as a 501(c)3 organization in October 2023.
The need for unconditional love and support in the LGBTQIA+ community is evidenced in the statistics regarding suicide and self-harm in addition to the alarming number of LGBTQIA+ people who are addicts or in recovery. Kaleidoscope Indy began has a mostly social ministry for the queer community, but soon discovered the need was much deeper.
On Kaleidoscope Indy’s one-year anniversary in November 2022, a new program initiative was announced called #SelfMade: Nobody put Baby in a box. This gender affirming program provides gender affirming products and care to individuals suffering from gender dysphoria, just beginning their transition journey or who cannot afford the items they need. During Pride we were flooded with applications for a #SelfMade kit. Our Kaleidoscope Community is committed to continuing the life-changing and life-saving work #SelfMade is doing.
As Kaleidoscope Indy grew, so did the number of people in recovery. Seeing another need in the community, Kaleidoscope began hosting and promoting “Zero Proof” (alcohol-free) gatherings for the LGBTQIA+ community which will continue to be a priority.
Created by and for the LGBTQIA+ community, Our Kaleidoscope Community is committed to prioritizing and elevating queer voices, expressions and experiences in the community.

OUR FUTURE
Most recently, members began expressing the need a safe place to express their feelings, tell their stories and receive support from others. Working with licensed therapists and social workers, Our Kaleidoscope Community plans on implementing support groups for weekly meetings beginning in 2024. Our Kaleidoscope Community listens and works diligently to meet the unique needs of the LGBTQIA+ community as they arise and we become aware of them.
Currently, we have one chapter in Indianapolis, but we would love to form additional chapters around the city and in counties neighboring Marion County. If you are interested in hearing more about starting your own chapter, please contact indykaleidoscope@gmail.com.
We really love our family.
